You could not ask for more perfect weather for a day at the 89th Virginia Gold Cup races. The sold out event filled the overflow parking, yet almost everything managed to flow smoothly. A day at the races is entertaining, watching the people, horses, dogs, and looking at all the lovely hats. Then, when everything comes to an end, attempting to leave the grounds provides for a sort of entertainment all it’s own. We watched an officer step in front of driving line cutters, while onlookers cheered wildly. A man drove his truck into the creek and nobody seemed to be sober enough to get it out, all while girls were dancing and boys were fighting. Don’t feel bad if you missed the fun. You can catch the International Gold Cup Races on October 25th.
