Girl Scout camps offer incredible opportunities for girls to get out and discover that they really can be amazing! You don’t need to belong to a troop to participate. You can simply become a member and 24 hours later, sign up! Of course, there is great fun to be had when you belong to a troop.

Hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, crafting, geocaching, archery, campfires, new friends, and silly songs fill the days and evenings at Girl Scout sleep away camps. There are four facilities offering summer sleep away camp programs to girls in the NOVA area. Not all camps have the same offerings, so check out the camp and programs before signing up.

Camp May Flather, Mount Solon, VA: Offers high adventure activities and boating on nearby lakes. The North River runs directly through the middle of May Flather’s 50 wooded acres inside the George Washington National Forest.

Camp Coles Trip, Stafford, VA: Consider camping in a covered wagon or one of Coles’ other forms of shelter. Coles is made up of 229 wooded acres and has facilities on each side of the Aquia Creek shores.

Camp Potomac Woods, Leesburg (Lucketts), VA: While a little more rustic than some of the other campgrounds, Potomac Woods’ 101 acres features a great lodge where girls can come together for meals and group activities. Potomac Woods has its own dock on the Potomac River where girls can fish. This camp also offers a spectacular horse program, but it’s $750.

Camp Winona, Hughesville, MD: About 90 minutes south east of D.C., this camp has 178 acres of woods and open fields with a pond.

If your daughter is not up for a full week of being away from home, half sessions are available for younger girls.

Summer sleep away camp registration is now open and fills up quickly. Registration for day and evening camps becomes available on February 10th.

*As with any activity or event, confirm all details with the organization before attending and check for up to date public health and safety information.
